The first thing that hit him on entering the hatch was the smell. It was a combination of stale air and humanoid aroma. While life had developed on many planets in wide and diverse parts of the galaxy, there seemed to be a commonality to the smell of unclean life, even in the intelligent creatures. The muskiness of the ship seemed to have overwhelmed the air scrubbers. The space seemed unusually warm.
Commander Wilkins adjusted his googles. It was never easy to approach
and dock with a ship unannounced, but he had all the override codes and the
ability to use them to enter through any hatch on the ship. Fortunately, to
this point, none of the less than desirable elements had figured out the codes,
or even knew that they existed. While some had created some very clever back
up systems, most of them fell victim to the fleet backdoor access codes.
